The Rockets were a team that was stuck in the middle of the pack and couldn't attract a big name free agent. They wanted to get out of that position. Well, congratulations to Houston because they got what they wanted. The problem with that you ask? It may not be a good thing. Contract wise, Houston's cornerstones of the franchise should be Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin. Now, that might be an exciting pick and roll combination, but not a $50 million dollar one. Outside of those two, the Rockets have a slew of young prospects in Jeremy Lamb, Terrence Jones, Marcus Morris, Royce White, JaJuan Johnson, etc.
They destroyed their roster in hope that they would land a star at the level of Dwight Howard, but Howard refuses to resign with them if traded. So, Houston is stuck with a couple draft picks, two overpaid players in Omer Asik and Jeremy Lin, an expiring contract in Kevin Martin, and a whole lot of forwards. One way or another, it will be a lot different in Houston. It could be good with a starting five of Jeremy Lin, Jeremy Lamb, Terrence Jones, Royce White and Omer Asik. That is the type of team that has the potential for all 5 of the starters to be stars. However, the other option is a lot less inviting, with the players not panning out. Now, there will be light at the end of the tunnel with a high draft pick to build around, but here's a warning for a crashing ship: be careful what you wish for.
